Project Context
Prior to the NFT boom, an independent photographer envisioned a different approach to selling fine art photography online.
The concept centered on creating scarcity and rewarding artists as their work gained popularity—whenever an original photo print sold, the next print would double in price.
This model aimed to capture more value for the creator rather than letting it accumulate in secondary markets.

Create a custom e-commerce platform for selling photography with an innovative pricing model and dynamic browsing experience that showcased hundreds of nature, travel, and architectural photographs.
Value-capturing pricing logic
We built a custom commerce system using Craft Commerce that automatically doubled the price of a photograph after each sale. This unique pricing mechanism created digital scarcity while ensuring the artist captured increasing value as pieces gained popularity.
The custom logic triggered with each purchase, adjusting prices in real-time and providing a new approach to valuing digital art that predated many NFT concepts.
A dynamic discovery experience
We developed a React front-end that randomized the homepage display with each visit, creating a unique browsing experience every time. This approach ensured visitors would discover different photographs, even if they returned multiple times.
Combined with robust filtering options, the interface made exploring the catalog intuitive while preventing any single work from dominating the browsing experience. We implemented the design vision, which drew typography and iconography inspiration from camera interfaces.
Outcomes
The platform successfully launched in 2021 and continues to operate today. Both the dynamic browsing experience and innovative pricing system function as designed, creating a forward-thinking approach to digital art commerce.
